The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics provides many opportunities for students to work with faculty on research projects. By working with faculty, students acquire skills to prepare them in their chosen fields of study and their careers.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY

Many programs in the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics provide opportunities for students to learn how to be good stewards to our planet. The Division of Natural Areas oversees three properties that are used for learning and research opportunities as well as community events and recreation.

The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics at Eastern Kentucky University offers a broad range of degree programs in STEM areas that meet the needs of our students and prepare them for their chosen career or advanced studies.

Our outstanding faculty are committed to student success through excellent instruction, accessibility to students, and other high impact practices such as undergraduate research and hands-on instruction.

Our state-of-the-art Science Building provides laboratory and instructional spaces that are well-suited for engaged and transformative learning and cutting-edge research. Meadowbrook Farm provides students a unique experience to work with livestock and crop enterprises.  It also serves as a learning resource for the agriculture community. Our natural areas at Lilley Cornett Woods, Maywoods, and Taylor Fork Ecological Area provide unparalleled outdoor facilities for environmental research and education.  EKU’s flight training operations at the Central Kentucky Regional Airport enables us to train the best and safest professional pilots, and the most forward-thinking managers coming out of academia today.

Division of Natural Areas

 

The Division of Natural Areas manages three: Lilley Cornett Woods Appalachian Ecological Research Station, Maywoods Environmental and Educational Laboratory, and Taylor Fork Ecological Area. Each of these areas provide unique experiences for students, local school groups, and the general public.

Graduate Finds Success in Management Information Systems

Joe Skinner, ’11, joined the workforce immediately after graduation, starting in an information technology leadership program through Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati. In this program, Skinner had the opportunity to work in different positions every six months for two years.
